Event Name: Communications workshop: Reframing our views on aging
Location: Club d'age d'or
Description: The Centre on Aging will be hosting a series of workshops across Manitoba to discuss how we can better present information on aging.

About the workshop
Ageism is rampant across the world and has been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a major issue facing older adults. For older adults to be fully valued by society and hence included socially, ageism needs to be overcome. Unfortunately, many ways that are currently used to communicate about aging might unknowingly have negative effects. Based on public opinion research and empirical testing, the FrameWorks Institute has developed a new toolkit for communicating about aging. The focus of the workshop will be on providing sound information and practical solutions for how to communicate effectively about aging-related issues.

Who should attend
Anyone who communicates about aging including: staff and board members of organizations related to older people (e.g., seniors centres, advocacy and programming organizations, age-friendly community committees, etc.), government and regional health authority staff, media, teachers, students, researchers, and older people.

Note: A light lunch will be provided to participants after the workshop.
